A SYDNEY OPERA
OLEUM
Commissioned by Sydney Opera House, and conceived by Subversus, Oleum is a provocative reframing of opera for the screen. This film follows the journey of a wounded mechanic as he strives to hear the plaintive song of a local waitress one last time.
Oleum reframes and reconstructs opera for the screen, moving beyond the walls of the Opera House, shooting in and around Sydney to spotlight the city and its creatives on a global stage.
Directed by VERSUS (Tanya Babić and Jason Sukadana), the Oleum creative team includes award-winning cinematographer, Tyson Perkins; renowned theatre and opera designers, Charles Davis and Emma White; and interdisciplinary fashion designers Injury (Dan Tse & Eugene Leung).
Oleum screened to an invited audience at the Sydney Opera House and premiered digitally on Nowness. It is currently doing the rounds on the international festival circuit.
